*I really don't want to be walloped by a hurricane right now(too close to vacation week), and certainly not a hurricane named Bertha!
*Whenever I hear Deathcab For Cutie, I imagine the singer is Rainn Wilson(who plays Dwight on The Office). I might have once seen the actual singer for this band and thought he looked like Rainn?? Or did I see the singer for The Postal Service or My Morning Jacket and think the lead singer looked like Rainn?? I constantly confuse these bands with each other. I only recently disclosed this to John (about picturing Rainn singing when a Deathcab song comes on the radio) , and he thought I was strange for thinking it.
*I got called Celeste yesterday in the shop. This lady (whom I didn't recognise at all) came marching up to the counter, and smiled and then said "Hello, Celeste!". I just stared and smiled back, and didn't correct her and then we picked out a frame for her picture together. If she thinks I am named Celeste, that is perfectly alright with me. In fact, I rather like it.
*As I was driving up the hill out of our neighborhood this morning, I saw a little girl still in her nightgown in her front yard twirling a fishing net in the air and talking to herself.
*My daughter looks like a little beach goddess these days, although I know she is exhausted. This was her second day at Beach Camp and she is getting a little too pink in the face for me not to worry about the next three days spent in the sun and swimming in the surf(although tomorrow they are taking a canoe trip on the Wood River, and I think much of it is under the shade of overhanging tree branches), but her bleached out beach hair is very becoming and she appears taller to me. I just keep telling her to try to remember to reapply the sunscreen and drink plenty of water.
I have a little bit of color on my face tonight, too. After dropping the kid off at the camp, John and I went on to The Ocean Mist for breakfast out on the deck. We felt as if we were on a ship out at sea almost. The deck is on tall stilts on the beach and it was high tide, so the water was almost directly beneath us!! So, I already started to get some sun sitting there, and then after, we met my mother at East Matunuck beach and stayed there until it was time to leave to get Rachel. So, I was out in the sun for much of the day today. It was so breezy and comfortable by the shore, it was easy to forget about excess sun exposure. So....my nose is red, but I think the rest of me is okay and it'll be tan tomorrow. (yeah, yeah, I know....it's still sun damage.) The waves were pretty big out there today and I felt like a weenie because I was nervous getting out beyond where they break. I didn't used to be so afraid of the surf like I am now. In defense, the waves really were pretty big today--Rachel said she got knocked down and tumbled around four times by the surf at the beach where she was, a few miles down the coast from OUR beach.

* I just checked the weather news and it says as of three hours ago that the intensity of Bertha is greatly diminished far out in the Atlantic. Good. I hope Bertha runs out of steam. It seems too early in the season anyway, to be thinking about hurricanes.
* My new favorite summer beer is UFO Hefeweizen. With a slice of lemon it, served ice cold! A cold Corona with lime used to be my summer beer, but I'm now smitten with my Hefeweizi. Prost!

I hope you don't get a hurricane, either. It must be something you think about a lot. Being land locked, we don't really think much about hurricanes...
Do you remember the days when we used to be able to go outside in the sun and not think about the damage?? My parents used to let us play outside all the time when we were kids, without much worrying... Ahhh, those were the days.
Celeste is my mom's name, and people actually asks her why she didn't name me Celeste as well, as it's also my grandma's name. I kind of like it too, so I'm wondering why also? I'm glad with Claudia, but wouldn't have minded Celeste.
Coincidentally thought of you when heard about Bertha (strange name by the way...or so I think). It is season of hurricanes for us down here, so it's normal to see them forming. We were glad though that it was going north, though concern because I saw you (well your area :-) ) on its path. But like the forecast said, it has better chances to lower it intensity as it goes up north, were water temperatures - even if you are in summer season - are colder than those around the equator, where are always warmer. Hopefully it will only be a slight breeze if it ever touches RI.
Hey, Ms., Manders,
I am being purely selfish about not wanting a hurricane because I simply don't want anything to alter my vacation plans(a storm off the coast can still affect the inland mountain regions--it has in the past)
I think there are other worse natural disasters, such as tornadoes(which can not be predicted and tracked like a hurricane can now) and fires and floods. And, truthfully, I half expect we are due for a hurricane this year. With all these bad natural disasters happenng to poeple all over the world, I feel like we are getting away Scot free here in my corner of the world.
~~ Well, Claudia,
I am glad you didn't tell me your mother's name was Bertha, after what I said!! I love that name, the more I think of it. The sound of it(celestial comes to mind) and the image it creates in my mind is of a beautiful woman.
I was reading about the destruction and death a certain hurricane (Stan) caused to an area in your country today on your blog(on the side bar ). I certainly hope you'll only get "breezes" and not any hurricanes down there, either!!
Keeping my fingers crossed that Bertha stays under control!
RI sounds so gorgeous - you really have an incredible gift of giving vivid snapshots of your days Celeste :-O
Now I have the urge for a bottle of beer with a slice of lime - but I have to make do with tea for now!
But "Prost" to you my dear! xxx
Q.C.,
Well, some parts of RI are pretty ugly(it's an old industrial state), but I am lucky to live in the southern part near the ocean and it is generally nicer here.
I would LOVE to be sitting outside, at a cafe , drinking a cold lemony beer with YOU!!
And...you called me CELESTE!! That so appeals to my....inner Celeste. ;-)
The ocean mist *sigh* how romantic!
The beautiful Celeste, looking out to sea siping her cocktail, gentle, handsome man by her side, the sweet sounds of the ocean making a magical backdrop to their romance....
ahhhh how I wish....
I was also going to say (Before i went off on my romantic tamdem0 is it just me who thinks the guy in the photo looks like Ant and/or Dec? xx
Cottage Crafts lady,
I am afraid I have given you the wrong idea about the Ocea Mist--it's a grungey, beer-soaked beach bar. But, the location, eating out on that deck(and they make a decent breakfast), can't be beat!!(and while we could have had a Bloody Mary or even a beer at 11:00 in the morning, we only had coffee and ice water)
Oh, yeah, C.C.
who's Ant and/or Dec.?? The man in the photo, Rain Wilson, plays the "Dwight" character in the American version of "The Office"
I like breakfast outdoors, it makes such a great start of the day (especially with a view like that of course ;-)
