...to be happy about on a sultry, sticky Thursday evening.
1. First of all, my husband's inventive angel hair pasta dish he cooked for supper made me very happy!
The best dish he has ever made!!
Garlic sauteed in olive oil, chopped Kalamata olives, and a chopped tomato from our garden, added to the mix. A little left-over grilled chicken from three days ago. It doesn't sound like much, but it was truly heavenly! A perfect meal to eat outside on a warm night. Can you tell I am impressed with my husband's culinary creation? He usually cooks very basic stuff, so this was a nice surprise. I told him he turns me on when he gets creative like that. :-)
2. Second thing--the nicely chilled Vinho Verde wine we had to go with the meal. I never bought this kind of wine (from Portugal) before. As it turns out, it was the perfect drink for the meal (I bought it after I got out of work, not even knowing J was making supper tonight or what he was going to make).
3. Third thing--a little solo clarinet music to dine by!!
Two houses down, there is a clarinet player in our neighborhood. Last summer, I heard it being played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I loved listening to it. But until I heard it this evening, I realised I had not heard my neighbor playing the clarinet all summer, so far. Or else, the windows were shut because of air conditioning? Or I just wasn't around to notice? It just made my evening all that much better. Now, if only it were Friday night , instead of Thursday night..... ;-)

How absolutely Gorgeous, how evocative of summer, dining alfresco, the clink of glasses, nice wine, good company, the scent of the garden and a little light music *sigh* How perfect. No wonder these things make you happy Tee, I'm happy just thinking of it.

I have to admit I left out the surrounding bedraggled potted plants(my lettuces all bolted and flowering!)dying from neglect and the heat, the weed-choked flower beds the back deck looks down on and the wet towels sloppily hung on the railings--this was the not so romantic backdrop to our outdoor dining. ;-)

I had forgettne that it was very unlikely that we would enjoy such a meal at home, only six years ago.
Our daughter wasn't even home yesterday(we picked her up at the ferry at 8:30 and she's home now)--was on Block Island.
So, there we were "childless". Each "era" has it's charms, though, and before you know it, you'll be having a dinner alone with your husband.
The pasta dish sounds just lovely! I love dishes like that!
I love vinho verde...we drink it a lot!! It's such a lovely summery wine :-).
When you see Mateus overthere I can recommend that as well, it's in the same category.
I like live music and I love the clarinet! We have a musician in the apartment under us as well, he's from India and only lives here now and then but when he is around I always hear him playing his special bambu flute ;-). It's kind of special to be awakened by it.

We are off to the Port Hope Estival ( no this is not a spelling mistake). It's the first one so it should at least be interesting!
Sounds like the perfect dinner in a perfect summery setting. Alkis learnt to cook at the hotel school and proved to be a great cordon bleu. He's often impressed me with his culinary skills and creative imagination. But now , he tends to be rather lazy and it's been a long time he hasn't cooked anything for us. Thanks for recommending the wine. The only Portugese wine I know is Matias which I don't like very much...too sparkling. I'll try to find Vinho Verde.

Nice background music as well! When something music-related is heard in my neighborhood, is actually on the annyoing-side :-( The house on the corner gets loud and noisy because of the teen band practicing their rock and metal...not your super -or any other meal- type of music.

for the recommendation about the Mateus wine. I have never heard of that kind, but there is a helpful worker at the wine store so I'll ask him about it next time I go there for wine.

I see you mentioned this same kind of wine Cessie mentioned(Matias/Mateus)--maybe it is like an Italian Prosecco? I like those kinds of bubbly wines.
If you try the Vinho Verde, you will find it is just "slightly" effervescent, so maybe you would like it.

Glad you had such a lovely evening. Yep, the little things can make a huge difference. I'm lucky that my hubby is a very good cook too... I don't cook, but I sure do eat!! :) What would I do without him!!
