I'm back.
I feel very behind in everything at this moment.
Work(a back load of jobs to write up from Friday that I could not even touch today because I was busy there, even having to stay late), e-mails, friends, my blog, reading other's blogs, my once-again weedy garden beds...phew!
And the only reason I had a blog up today (the Dali's birthday entry earlier) was that I wrote it a few weeks ago in advance and had it set to publish on this date. I forgot, actually, that I had done that, so was somewhat befuddled when I saw there were comments today!
Does anyone else do this?
Use certain words when writing, like in a blog here, that you would never use in speaking in your day-to-day life?!
I have never ever actually uttered the word "befuddled" aloud in my life, I am fairly sure. But, this is at least the second time that I typed that word here at my blog.
Now...that is somewhat befuddling, isn't it?
So...I will catch up. Hopefully tomorrow on my weekday off--although I have a ton of things to catch up on in the yard and in the house, maybe telling a little about my weekend in Maine ( a memorial service combined with a small family reunion) which was really great, in spite of the reason for going there was for the memorial(it was a unifying thing for my usually scattered, uncommunicative and dysfunctional family--so a good thing) and I am always happy in Maine.

But, now it's Monday and back to the reality of a full calendar, unexpected maddening glitches and situations at work and not enough hours in the day(and an empty refrigerator which means..back to the grocery store).

** While I am at it, I might as well add a Manic Monday with this week's questions, courtesy of Fleur De Lisa:
How old were you when you learned to tie your shoes?
I have a pretty strong memory of learning to tie my shoes. I even remember the satisfied feeling I had when I was able to say I could do it, after practicing doing it, over and over.
I was five years old, tying my shoelaces and unlacing them, sitting on the bottom step of the staircase in our first house in Maine(which I walked past this weekend-it seems so tiny compared to what it was in my memory)
I also remember it was the morning that my mother was explaining to me and my sister that my grandfather(my father's father) had just died. I hardly knew him, having met him only a few times when I was a baby and have no actual memories of him. We just buried my grandmother's ashes in the plot next to him this weekend. My grandmother-his wife, I knew very well and will always have many memories of her. Too bad he died so young and I never got to know him. Instead, I will always connect learning to tie my shoes with the day I learned he died.
Have you ever snooped in somebody else's medicine cabinet?
Yes, I have. It has been a long time since I have done that, though. It used to happen when I was a young(and slightly wild) thing and at house parties go into the bathroom if I felt too drunk, to chill out a little by myself. While I was in there, in my loopy state, I sometimes looked inside the cabinet. I remember feeling impressed when I discovered things like expensive creams and cosmetics inside, like from Lancome, because I was a cheapie drugstore product gal(still am).
Who do you think you are?
A slightly befuddled (still trying to figure life out every day even at this age), snooping, blogging person who at least once learned how to tie her shoes.
(that question immediately made me think of the old Jean Knight song, "Mr. Big Stuff".
Mr. Big Stuff
Who do you think you are?
Mr. Big Stuff
You're never gonna get my love...

hehe maybe it's the time of the year...you don't even wanna know about everything I'm being behind in right now. I decided to take one step at a time and divided my time in parts not to get overwhelmed lol. I do have my moments of freaking out too though: at preference when I'm in bed and cannot sleep and then think of what I *could* have done instead of lying awake ;-))
I guess when writing text some words just turn up in your head...out of the blue and you just *have* to write those down. It's weird I know, but I do it too. Sometimes I think it's the keyboard doing its own thing!
Take your time girl...just do what you feel like doing the most! You are the most important in your life ;-).
I like the word befuddled btw...it sounds cozy to me!
Your blog, your rules, right?
I think everyone's writing voice is a bit different from their in-real-life voice.
I'm glad you got up here, but sounds like for a sad reason. :-(
Take your time getting back up to speed...
xxoo
Well, yes, I do it all the time on TypePad especially with my online lessons. I can schedule a blog in advance when I have some some extra time to be published on a certain day and time. Well..if I have this extra day and time , that is, considering my very busy schedule at this time of year. But I never programme a blog on my personal weblog. If I have time I'll blog it, if not I won't. I have set a limit on the computer. And I will not allow a machine to rule my life. I can share your feelings, Tina, as I often tend to worry about not blogging too often when I have a lot of work. Pls note the time I am posting this comment. In my part of the world it's 00:45. But this is only occasional. Blogging is certainly not my first priority!
It's a good thing that I am not teaching right now. This is always a stressful time of year of teachers because you are so far behind!!
#1. I have never scheduled a blog post. I have too much time on my hands!
#2. I think befuddled is cute. fits you perfectly, the way I picture you since I have never met you in person.
#3. take the time to smell the roses.
#4. I have always wondered where do your questions come from?
Tina, great post, made me laugh. I have just gotten into work after a morning off, so I am having my lunch reading your blog, learning about the word "befuddled" that I have never heard before.
I think what happens to me is that I get better at English writing a blog; using thesaurus a lot I discover new words that sounds poetic and then I start using them when talking.;)
Cute story about how you learned to tie your shoes; you know, I actually do not remember when I learned that.;))
And btw, you are so NOT weird; I kiss Batcat's paws ALL the time.;) I so get that, loved that comment!! I could have written that totally.;)
Have a great Tuesday.;)xo

~~Marcelle,
Sorry to hear you have this in your life from time to time, too. Why are we so often made to feel overextended?
I agree--"befuddled" DOES sound cozy :-)
~~Only,
I was thinking of you and thinking how cool would it be if I ever had more time(could not get Monday off so had to make it a quick trip)that we could meet if I were up that way again. The memorial was sad, but not wrenchingly sad because my grandmother died at the end of last summer so we have all been able to deal with it over the past months. It was sad that she would have loved having all her family around like that, but it it was beautiful up in Maine(Augusta, Hallowell, Gardiner area which really isn't not the "tourist" Maine, I know) and I felt like I was "home" again.

I never even knew you could pre-publish a blog entry until a short while ago. I have done it a few times, for birthdays, but like you, for my day-to-day ruminations here, there is no way to schedule that kind of writing.
Your words about blogging are wise ones, and I did calm down later yesterday. I think after a restful weekend away, being thrown right back into a rushed routine and a stressful workday temporarily overwhelmed me.
~Manders,
That "behind" feeling is terrible, although I can't exactly know what it is like being a teacher(although I'm married to one). At least as a teacher, there is a big reward for the hard work and stress to look forward to--the weeks off in the summer.
~Doreen,
I have not scheduled many blog posts(and then forget I have!), but it is a neat feature here.
I think you are pretty perceptive--I would have to admit I am a befuddled-type person (sort of an absent-minded professor).
~Protege,
I tend to forget completely that English is not your native language so it is good to be reminded of that and realise blogging is even a mental challenge and a learning, brain-expanding exercise for you(and my other "English-as-a-second-language" blogger friends).
Oh..I feel so much better that you understand, too, about those delectable kitty paws. ;-)
I loved your description of yourself :-)
I know exactly what you mean. I have been having trouble keeping up myself these days. Hope you get back on track soon :)
