It's Salvadore Dali's birthday. Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, 1st Marquis of Púbol (May 11, 1904 – January 23, 1989) was a Spanish Catalan surrealist painter born in Figueres, Spain.
The "new" Dali museum in St. Petersburg, Florida is still under construction. I visited the "old" one twice. That's where I got my bumper sticker that says "Get Surreal" which is still proudly displayed on the back of my otherwise nondescript Ford Escort wagon. But the museum was closed a few years ago because of it's location right on the water and fears of a hurricane and/or flooding damaging the collection of Dali's art.

Well, there is a unique artist and man, if there ever was one.
I recall that my parents had a reproduction of one of his paintings. I am a fan of his earlier work, but some of his later art is too surreal for my taste.,)

I have been wanting to go to Figueres because of him for ages already...but never went so far. Ah well, one day... ;-). I like his work, but even more his ideas!
Interesting video! And interesting game! Never knew it existed. Quite a character Dalí!...he did it all it seems! :-) Though, how did the mustache question rised? They seemed lost, and all of the sudden they ask about the famous mustache? Another interesting thing, that his art is the USA. Never thought it could be there. It must be a really interesting place to visit.
There was a Dali painting (it was an angel on a beach - couldn't tell you the title) at our museum here, and it was my favorite for a long time. Wicked fun to see up close.
I had the chance to visit the Dali Museum in London a couple of years ago. There's an amazing collection of over 500 artworks there. There are also very rare graphics, jewellery, furniture and brilliant water colours. I loved Space Elephant!! but my most favourite one is Buste de Femme Retrospectif - one of the greatest classics of surrealism dating back to the 1930s. I also like some of his sculptural work, yet I don't think he was as great a sculptor as he was a painter. Not like Rodin, for instance. I am a great Dali fan and I do hope that one day I'll visit the Spain museum in Figueras as well. I also greatly enjoyed the video.

I take that as a HUGE compliment! Dali was a genius draftsman and even though he is so well known for his surrealistic paintings, I have always been fascinated with even his ink and pencil sketches and the sure lines.

It seems an odd place for a Dali museum, but it is worth the trip(and off course that whole area of Florida on the west coast is pretty fun). My daughter was eight years old when we went there and she loved it and still talks about the experience and Dali's art.

Dali did become more and more a "personality" and I didn't care for his later work, either. How fun that yur parents had a Dali reproduction hanging in the house(mine had a Van Gogh and an Albrecht Durer)

That game show was still on when I was a child--it was very popular for a long time.
There are SO many wonderful museums all over the USA, and all over the world, of course, with collections of art and artifacts. In the future, I would love to be able to visit the British museum and hopefully(this summer) the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.

Oh...I can "almost" picture that painting! There really is "something" about seeing a favoritepainting up close and personal in a museum.

The Dali collection you were able to see sounds amazing. I think I know the "Space Elephant" painting, and I will have to look up the "Buste de Femme Retrospectif ".
