Good smells of the day:
* wild grapes(Vitus labrusca). I didn't even expect to smell them yet, thinking it was too early, but yeah--it IS the middle of September and wild grape time. I found a huge heavy vine of grapes on my walk with the dog this morning. Actually, it was the scent of them I noticed first. I looked up and there was this huge vine full of them. And I actually had my camera on me, too!
* my dog's fur-I bathed her on Tuesday, and also brushed in some almond oil in the lower back where it gets dry--she is gleaming and so sweet smelling.
* brewing "Creme Brulee" coffee this morning. Usually, I don't bother with any kind of flavored coffee, but love creme brulee and saw a bag of this at Ocean State Job Lot for 3.00 so I had to try it. Let's just say the smell of it is better than the actual taste of it(which seems to be the case I think with any flavored coffee)
Good names of the day:
* All day long I wrote down the first names of my customers. My first customer of the day was named Flora which I love and she inspired me to start my list(as strange as that sounds). As you can tell from the list, most of our customers are women and women of a certain age--with the most wonderful names that never get used anymore, and I don't know why.

Good Things of the day:
* When a man at work told me, (after I had cut a piece of his own picture frame glass for him, and told him I felt funny even charging him a dollar for such a simple and quick procedure), "Honey, you have made a whole bunch of old men happy!" Apparently, he was in the middle of some kind of project with photos of him and his buddies, one of them stuck to the glass, which is why I had to cut around it.

Bad Things of the day:
* my daughter pulling a face and not being impressed by my excitement over the 39.99 "Bearpaws" boots in her size(!) at the great price of 39.99 that I spotted at Marshall's. Because we live in a fairly wealthy community(but not all of us are), it seems that, "Everyone else has Uggs. Some of the girls at school have more than one pair, even. I would rather get Uggs." In case one doesn't know this--Uggs are 140.00. The nearly same quality look-alike Bearpaws are 100.00 less. I wish I could convince my daughter to not have to be like everyone else and want these things at all(she already has a pair of grey suede slouchy boots plus other newish footwear), and that this Uggs trend has been around for at least 10 years already. So yesterday....Uggs. Ugh.
* finding out I'll probably be working quite a few Saturdays in the next few weeks. Ugh.

I'm sorry about the Ugg's, and I wish I could say my child had more of a backbone about this stuff. I will get him the brand he wants if it's cheap, on clearance, or on eBay. I remember when that was important when I was in middle school (and that phase only lasted a year or so), so I will play into it, as long as he plays by my rules. I remember being sad when my mother wouldn't have any of it - she was actually quite mean about it, so I guess I have a soft spot for teens wanting to fit in. Sigh.
Such a silly thing when you think about it.
Your good things of the day is so cool. I love that your found some wild grapes on your walk. I hope you plucked some off the vine and popped one or two into your mouth. I also like that you started a name list. Very interesting.

it's odd that everyone wants to be considered unique but also no-one wants to be really different. I vaguely remember a poodle skirt in my youth that my mother actually let me buy. That was about it for what was in the "everyone has one so I need one" situation since we had NO money in my teens!

You know...I did leave it up to my daughter--if she REALLY wanted the Uggs brand, I told her we would have it be a big Xmas gift but she would have to wait. I even told her(after we went to the store this evening , and she tried them and liked them--real suede and sheepskin lining--and we bought them)she could think it over tonight and we could return them if she still thought she would rather have the Uggs. But she seems happy with them and insists she wants these un-Uggs..
You just seem like a nicer mother than me about stuff like this, and I can see why, since you carry your memory of how it was with you and your mother.

Actually,I don't really like eating those wild grapes(but the smell is luscious--like Welch's grape juice)because the seeds inside are huge, and the skin kind of thick and rubbery. My husband loves them though.

I have to admit I often forget what it was like to be a teen and the whole "want to fit in" thing(Only reminded me of it). When I was a teen it was a big deal to have Levi corduroy jeans and luckily my mother worked in a department store that sold them and she was able to get me and my sister them in just about every color with her employee discount.

I also love the scents of Caprifolium that is still blooming in my garden.
And I agree, the name Sasha has always been my favorite.;))

Yes, there is some extra pay for working extra hours, but I'm at heart a lazy weekend-loving Gal so am not too excited about this, even though I should be.
I don't know what Caprifolium is--I'll have to "look that up".(nice, isn't it, when there is still something flowery and sweet smelling in the garden at this time of year, though?)

When my boy asks for things that are out of reach (including clothes), I make him ask for it for a "big" gift, just like you. He sometimes asks for just Best Buy cards, so he can buy himself things like and iPod or digital camera.
So those are called Uggs!! Had no idea. Not that popular around here. Wear them would mean getting your feet into a sauna! :-)) Or maybe they are fresher than they look?
Great pictures of President Obama! Loved especially those of his daughters and their dog. They do seem to be a normal family, don't they? At least so far.
Sorry about the Saturday working hours...not good news, but maybe you can come across more unique names for your list? I like Flora. Very nature oriented I think. I wonder if the lady with the name liked nature a good deal?

Good smells...there are so many smells here, I could go on and on about it. Not all of them *that* positive though lol. I would I could smell your grapes...can imagine it smells nice!
Listing names is wonderful. I think a few of your names are still quite common in NL though ;-).
I *love* writing down names. I already did that as a young girl. Never knowing that I wouldn't have kids I guess.
I don't even like Ugg's...in my opinion they are ugly haha. I never was a girl that wanted to 'belong' so much and I always 'butterflied' from one group to another so I guess I couldn't help you much here. I do remember a lot of the girls wanted to though so I can imagine the soft spot of Only a movie. The prices are ridiculous, I so agree. I cannot even imagine why there would be a reason (apart from the soft spot) to give something fashionable of this amount of money to kids/teens. Even if parents do have the money available. I'd rather spent money on more special things than that if I were your girl. But who am I lol.
Not easy being a parent of a teen I think!
