That Martha!

As much as I mock her , I can't help but kinda like the lady(or the lady and her staff and "empire" of entertaining and decorating perfectionists). I have a friend who passes on her Martha Stewart Living magazine to me and I have to say I usually get some great ideas and recipes out of them.

I just try to ignore that "too-too-Martha" calendar of her month of things to do(only attainable if you live like Martha Stewart and have a staff of 30 to do it for you), and also don't ever get too excited about the room interiors and those sickly washed out shades the rooms always have--I like more punchy color, myself.

In December's issue, there was a double page of recipes for holiday cocktails--like gluhwein and glogg and mulled wine. These were all too involved and didn't appeal to me, anyway.

But the one that stuck in my mind and seemed incredibly easy and yummy was one for a Champagne Slushie.

Basically all you do is drop a tablespoonful of sorbet into a champagne flute and immediately after, pour in some sparkling wine (I usually use Prosecco). Supposedly, the bubbles mix up the sorbet and turns it into a slushy consistency. Doesn't that sound fun?

I have a container of raspberry sorbet in the freezer, all ready for tonight's "Once In A Blue Moon" New Year's celebration. Which will be just the husband and I, because the daughter is going to be sleeping over at her best friend's house.

We'll be dining on shrimp cocktails and love...... and fizzy drinks. ;-)

I just thought of another idea(next New Year's toast?) for a fun Champagne cocktail:

Kir Royales!

(and of course, the Martha Stewart website had a recipe)

Ingredients
Serves 6

3 ounces (6 tablespoons) creme de cassis
1 bottle Champagne or other sparkling white wine
6 strips tangerine or orange zest, for garnish

Directions
Just before serving, pour 1 tablespoon creme de cassis into each glass. Fill with Champagne, and garnish with zest.

Hmmmm...I might have to get a bottle of creme de cassis and make it a night of bubbly cocktails.

Kir Royale is my favourite New Year Champagne cocktail and can't wait to have one tonight! I tried gluhwein while on holiday in Prague, Czech Republic, but I didn't like it at all! Happy New Year!

I wouldn't mind having this woman stop by in my kitchen and home once in a while. I'd love to try that american egg nog to be honest and gluhwein. It sounds too good.

Enjoy your new tv and I hope you have a wonderful new year :)
