Spring-like weather has kept me outdoors a good deal the last four days. Even at work yesterday, with it being the third day in a row of mild weather(between 50 and 60 F*--or between 10 and 15 C*), we had the door open, and I couldn't help but keep poking my head out and sneaking some time just sitting in the sun(it was slow anyway , yesterday) on the back step.
There isn't much growing yet because it is so early....just my grape hyacinths(almost ready to bloom against the south wall of the house) and crocuses. A few shoots of tulips, daffodils and day lilies poking out of the ground.
But, it 's enough to get me feeling more positive--like we have made it out of the woods, finally. If it snows again(which it could up until May)--who cares? It won't stick around--it'll melt away quickly.
I had my mother over for lunch today, and it was possible to sit outside and eat(we did the same thing on Saturday and Sunday, too).
The dog even gets hot enough in the sun on the back deck to pant and move into the shade!(she's got black fur)
And her fur smells like sunshine when I burrow my nose into it these days.
Mr. F took out our bikes and cleaned them up, as well as the grill , over the weekend.
Every day, we have most of the windows open and the house is filled with clean smelling fresh air.
I planted lettuce seeds in pots on Sunday.
I couldn't bear to wear any kind of spicy and heavy perfume and broke out my Duende (by Jesus Del Pozo)--so light, green and fresh. Spring in a bottle.
I also don't even want to look at anything corduroy or woolly anymore.
When I drove by the main playground in town this weekend, it was full of kids. Something I hadn't seen in months.
I heard woodpeckers, too, pecking into trees throughout the neighborhood. That is a sure spring sign.
And leaf blowers(a neighbor broke one out))
Birdsong is waking me up in the mornings now.
I even saw two women wearing tank tops on Sunday!! I still haven't bared too much, staying in long-sleeved tops and jeans. But..it felt delicious to leave the house without gloves or a hat on Saturday morning. And I have been jumping into the car to go and pick my daughter up from band after school without even putting on a jacket!
It's supposed to come to an end starting tomorrow--rain is forecasted, but these last four days have been a nice taste of what's to come.

Ok, I'm officially jealous...cold north-easterly wind and drizzle here, aaarrghhh, I've had enough of this :-( Still, happy for you ;-)

We'll likely be back to that nasty weather ourselves, but I am enjoying this while I can. I have heard that Europe has had an especially rough winter this season..hope it will change soon for you!
Love this post. And T -- I think I can count on one hand how many times I've had to wear gloves this winter. That's some sort of wrong for Maine. I think we might be done too - it hasn't snowed here (that needed plowing) since early January. So weird.
Aaah, but you don't have to shovel rain! Let it wash away the remaining snow here and the sand they use on the roads (which btw is useless)
My tulips came back - They reared their little green leaves up through the soil and then 60 inches of snow fell on them. I live in the southern mid atlantic -this shouldn't happen. But they survived and it is making me happy.

We have had a few days of cold and wet snow. Supposed to warm up tomorrow and get warmer as the week goes on. I am ready for spring to be here. So are the kids. They want to ride their bikes.
You're so lucky with your weather, Tina!!!:) We had such beautiful spring days in Bulgaria too until the end of previous week but on Monday it started snowing and it hasn't melted yet...:((( I was longing for a snowy Christmas but never got one... And I got a snowy spring instead...:((( It's just not fair...:(((
I share you sentiments about this time of the year. It is like there is something in the air. Even one sunny day can make all the differnce.
Talking about baring skin; don't you just hate seeing yourself in the mirror right now? Why does our bodies look so strange right after winter. I do not know if it is the light and the lack of sun exposure, they look so pale and fat.;) Hehe. Ok, I am speaking for myself here.;)))

Such a pretty post! One can actually picture your surroundings! I wonder, though, how woodpeckers sound? We don't have them around, but I've been hearing the "summer bird" the last few days. I actually don't know what it looks like (have never managed to see it), or what the scientific name is, but it only shows up during summer time in Guatemala, hence the name I gave it.
Jewel must smell "tanned" :-)) just like Mateo and Lucas (black hair also). Lucas likes to stretch in the sun, and watch for hours the birds that come to eat. It's very entertaining to look at him actually!
I hope the rain goes quick, and that Spring comes formally to your door.

Yep--it never fails to amaze us--that things DO survive and grow even though the weather was so harsh all winter. I am SO glad to hear tour tulips are tough and survived! :-)

The woodpeckers "drill" into wood(tree trunks and even houses!!), and that is the sound I like(I think they are looking for insects in the wood). Now, I am very interested in what this "summer bird" of yours looks like. :-)

I would think things would be growing all through the winter where you are, but it has been a cold one for Florida this year, hasn't it?

it seems like it feels warmer where you are than here in nc, though we have had days of 50-60 degree weather. i have a few crocus in bloom and the top inches of tulips are poking their green spikes out of the ground. i had the heat off for a few days but haven't yet opened the windows.
