This gloomy day didn't stop this beautiful Monarch butterfly from shining.
I spotted it on a clump of goldenrod by the beach on a walk after work. I only noticed the bee next to the butterfly in the top photo, when I was looking over the images just now.

Beautiful butterfly photos. I haven't seen one in ages...not since I chopped down all my weeds. They loved my thistles.

I don't like bugs - Period! That includes butterflies. But they are beautiful creatures. I can admire them for their elegance!
I'm glad to see a monarch anywhere, so thank you for posting these pictures!! I would dearly LOVE to see them flit by as I know they should...we're on their way to Monterey! LOL!
Hubby says he's seen one. I haven't...yet.

This is usually the time of year--late Sept. to early Oct.-- that there are lots of Monarchs flitting around.
Do they really ALL go to Montery??

Beautiful picture and lovely butterfly. I don't think I've seen a Monarch butterfly in reality. Mostly I see Peacock butterflies on the Buddleia bush in the garden.
Wonderful pictures!! I like butterflies, but only the kind that comes to the garden, and that come in pretty colors. My garden has experienced the visit of white, yellow and multi colored butterflies! which seems to me as a sign of a healthy garden. Yey!
On the other hand, there are those rather large, dark butterflies that actually look scary. Those are a bid sign here in Guatemala, and when they get into your home, people think it's a sign of someone passing away!!! Not the superstitious kind, but I certainly am not very fond of those particular ones.
