Five slightly odd food combinations I crave from time to time:
1. Peanut butter on Ritz crackers(with a cold glass of milk) . I just had this favorite snack(since childhood) yesterday afternoon with a very attentive peanut butter loving dog at my feet the whole time. Yes, I gave her one.
2. Pepperoncinis with pita bread. I usually eat three of the hot peppers with a piece of the bread to take bites out of. The pita bread takes the edge off the vinegary, hotness of the peppers. I used to find a brand called "Star" pepperoncinis from Greece in my local Stop & Shop and those were the best and hottest. Now they don't carry them anymore...have to make do with the other brands.
3. Nabisco brand Graham crackers(has to be Nabisco brand only, although they make them smaller and wrap them in a plasticky wrap instead of waxed paper like they used to) spread with butter--dunked into hot coffee. My father taught me how to do this. It is actually kind of disgusting because the butter leaves a little bit of an oily film on the coffee, but..yum!
4. Sliced garden tomatoes on rye bread with a sprinkling of salt and black pepper, and chopped chives or onions on top. This is not really such a strange combination, but one of the best simple pleasures and just thinking of it makes me long for the summer.
5. Ice cream with peanut butter. Whoever invented this is a genius! Two rich, fattening comfort foods on one spoon. And I just love the consistency of the semi-frozen peanut butter.

I would love to know about other blogger's favorite food pairings--the strange and the not so strange.

Peanut butter by the spoonfuls. That was my favorite thing when pregnant. I don't do that anymore.
A few weeks ago I melted some peanut butter and dipped banana slices into it! SOOOOO YUMMY!!!
Peanut butter with a dollop of jam on Ritz crackers. I grow tomatoes, so a sliced tomato fresh off the vine with sea salt & mayo. And absolutely anything chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.
I've never met anyone else who eats peanut butter and ice cream! Yum... the chocolatey-er (whatever, you know what I mean), the better! It's like a gorgeous, partially frozen Reeses' Cup!
Thanks for stopping by today!!
I grew up on peanut butter & jelly sandwiches as well as peanut butter crackers and milk. I love jelly crackers as well as ritz crackers with cream cheese on them. I have never thought of eating ice cream with peanut butter, it sounds odd to me so I will have to try it,lol.
I think I would not call it odd combinations at all; mmmm, now I am hungry!
I particularly like the tomatoes on bread.;)
I do not think I eat anything that be considered as odd; sometimes I like to slice cold potatoes and put them over mustard on a dark bread.;))
Love your new profile picture!;) I like that you experiment with different ones; is it leaves of a plant that you are hiding behind? I was not sure.;)) Very arty!;))
OK You asked for it. Two of mine involve peanut butter. Like my daughter-in-law, I craved peanut butter and toast when I was pregnant.
1. Peanut butter and onion. I love a sandwich of peanut bitter with a little slice of onion on it. Go figure! But don't knock it if you haven't tried it. :-)
2. I also like peanut butter with mustard and peanut butter with chilli sauce but not with banana or jam. On Ritz biscuits is best!
3. Comfort food includes a fried egg and toast and tea.
4. Cookies with tea also qualifies as comfort food.
5. I also love beets with butter and also pickled beets. We had a cat who liked the buttered beets too. She was a very strange cat!
peanut butter sandwich with Lays potato chips. put the bread slices together and push down to crush the chips. yummy........
salty and sweet!!
The consistency of frozen peanut butter ribbons in ice cream (preferably chocolate) is one of my all time favorite things ever.
Now I want some.
Damn you, Weight Watchers!
Stay away from the peanut butter until this scare is over. Sorry. Tell R especially not to eat it at school. Frightful situation with our nation's favorite food.
♥Rosemary
i love pnut butter and anything. in high school i went through a ham and pnut butter sandwich phase. my son used to eat cheese and jelly sandwich. pnut butter/icecream/chocolate is awesome.
Well, I love Greek, French, British and Swiss food so here are my combinations:
1. Game, especially deer or reindeer - with the exception of Rudolph! Please don't burn me at the stake! Add to this some rasberry jam and some roesti!Chips are fine as well.
2. Souvlaki in pitta bread with pork, sheftalies, tomatoes, cucumber, parsley and lots of tahini.
3. Chocolate MacVities biscuits and freshly brewed black filtered coffee.
4. Assorted Thornton fudge and vanilla ice cream
5. Saganaki prawns with grapes.
6. Peskandritsa (kind of sea bream) with spinach sauce, olives, mint and orange
7. Chocolate fondue with Grand Marnier.
10. Raclette with just some Chablis!
11. Tod-in-the-hole and Spotted Dick! Not at the same time , of course!
12. Bangers and mash with apple sauce!
But...I hate peanut butter! Ah well, one man's meat is another man's poison !!!
I suppose I was carried away and gave you 12 on a ...fifth! I desperately need a weight watcher!!!
I got hungry while reading your post as well! I don't know whether I really have craves for odd food combinations as I am not so much into combining food. I do know I eat loads of food other people don't want to eat so I guess I will have some weirdness too lol.
Amanda,
I still DO eat peanut butter straight out of the jar sometimes! Your melty PB and Banana treat sounds like something I am going to try.
Joanne,
Yes, chocolate combined with just about anything is a good pairing..chocolate covered potato chips was a recent discovery...
Diane,
There are ice cream flavors you can buy with the peanut butter already mixed in...can't think of the actual names at the moment. But out of desperation I have mixed PB into plan cocolate or vanilla ice cream myself.
Roseann,
I used to eat cream cheese on Ritz crackers, too!
Protege,
I have never heard of anyone eating cold potatoes with mustard on dark bread, but it sounds like it could taste very good.
I guess I have been very indecisive about my profile photo lately. And you are correct--that is a palm tree with spiky leaves I am "hiding" behind. My husband says I look like I have Freddy Krueger fingers in this current photo, even though everyone else can tell it is a plant!
Sandra,
ooohh..I am craving peanut butter(all melty) on toast right now. And you DO have the most interesting combinations with PB!!! With onions, huh? Can't say I like beets at all. But I love olives(especialy Kalamata) and my cat goes crazy for olives like your cat loves your beets. :-)
Luckebabe,
You know I have heard of people eating chips with peanut butter before and it doesn't sound half bad.
Movie,
So you know what I am talking about with the "ribbons' of froz. peanut butter in the cold ice cream. Now you are making me crave it at 8:45 in the morning!
Rosemary,
I have been bad and not staying away from the peanut butter at all. I noticed it for sale on the supermarket shelves so it can't be all that bad of a situation, can it? I think the scare was about certain prducts like those premade peanut butter crackers made from peanuts from a certain processing plant. And the peanut butter I buy is the organic kind, so...I am taking my chances...and hoping for the best.
Creative Kerfuffle,
Ham and peanut butter--another combination that doesn't sound half bad...
Anastasia,
You have some of the the most elegant(and exotic--even "toad-in-the-hole" sounds different) food pairings! Chocolate fondue with Grand Marnier sounds heavenly.
Cessie,
Now I want to know what your own strange food craving are...please tell! ;-)
