my back deck, late spring 2008Damn, it's cold out. Wind has been howling out there since last night. And I really don't want to leave the house to walk the dog this morning before work. Waaah....
Spring needs to get here ...soon. I have reached the time of the winter when even optimistic me gets depressed about the weather. Although I did discover my grape hyacinths against the southern wall of the house have come up--always the first to poke up and bloom. Would love to take today off in fact, but there is no way I can. All I have to do is get through today and I have my Tuesday off to look forward to.
So, a little music for this Monday before I dash off. It's a Duffy song(made vegetable soup listening to that CD yesterday afternoon)--last song on her album which makes me think of a 60's song ala Lulu or The Ronettes. I am going to dedicate it to Ms. Z (Protege) this morning, since she is a daydreamer like me.

I'll have to listen to the song once I'm at home, since I can't listen to it my cubicle...
Winter... at least you have signs of spring popping up in your garden, so that is promising! :) We still have three feet of snow in town, and another 3 inches fell last night. It is still snowing and will be for the next day or two. Then it is supposed to drop from our current -10*C to -20*C or so. I am *so* mad/depressed from cabin fever and lack of light. I need a holiday from it all, but work is holding me back. *ugh*
Spring is a looooong way off up here, I'm afraid. It will be several months before I see the (dead, brown) lawn again. *sob*
Hope you enjoy your Tuesday off and that the weather is more friendly to walking! :)
Ah, I am so with you on the dreaming of spring and wanting a day off.;) My spring flowers are also on the way, I look at them every day.;)
And THANK YOU for this song!! What a surprise and in fact I love Duffy, this one is one of my favorites.;))
You just made my Monday, this was so sweet. Thank you, thank you.;))
Keep on dreaming.;))

I have never listened to her before. I like her!! I am going to check her out right now!!
It is snowing and winter here right now. I am tired of it as well!!
Such pretty Spring picture!! I am on a plague combat at the moment, that threatens to damage my plants, which are already blooming :-( I hope you have a great Tuesday off, and I hope weather improves soon...there's a point when one can't get more of the same, huh? Even if one tries to keep it positive.
So sorry the winter has you down, isn't it funny that the dead of summer, spring, winter or fall in Florida can bring me down, lol. I guess it is kind of like winter in the fact that around here everything pretty much always looks the same, no matter the season and for you winter looks the same for a long time out of the year. I am kind of getting itchy though, wanting to plant spring flowers :)
Kathleen,
You were at the back of my mind as I wrote down my complaints about the wind and cold, knowing surely, it is MUCH worse where you are. We had a high of 1*C today and it was sunny, but with the gale winds it felt unbearable to me. I hope a "southern" holiday can be squeezed in for you soon--it truly can get depressing--the lack of warmth and green to just look at.
~~Protege,
Today when I got home, I found more gardening and seed catalogs in the mail, so I will be dreaming(and planning) tomorrow for sure, of growing things under a warmer sun. I think we just have bear a few more weeks of this...
~Amanda,
It must be so much more of a winter and longer(like Kathy's) for you up in Canada. Don't you have aLas Vegas holiday coming up soon, though?? :-)
~Claudia,
I have reached my limit--from here on through March, I get disgusted with winter--happens every year. So sorry to learn you have something attacking your garden plants! A disease of some sort or bugs?? It's always something...
Roseann,
I can imagine the extreme heat in summer in Florida and having to keep inside where it is cool all the time, is like endurng a winter up north. Next month and April must be a wonderful time down where you are (look out, though--spring break and tourists!!)
Yeah, during Spring Break we avoid the beaches and places we normally would go to be outside. Tis a time for shopping, and reading books.
We have some of your strong winds here and for most of the past week! At least milder temperatures are promised for later this week. My computer woes have been consuming me today again but hopefully, this thing will work now.
~Sandra,
It is SO good *seeing* you back here and on line again--I forgot to say that when you commented on an earlier entry here.
Won't be too long before those flower planters are spilling over with pansies again! Every day is a little closer ...
