**For whatever reason, I have a romantic view and slight obsession with the first four decades of the 20th century. I have long been interested in the fashions, literature, films, music and culture from the years 1915 to 1950 (then I jump to the Mod Swinging London of the 60's). I do realise that there were some very hard, horrible times then(the Depression, World Wars for instance) but there is something appealing about those decades and I often wish I could time travel and spend a little time there.
So, I thought I would share the following black and white footage(1928) of New York City (with some wacky driving, Harold Lloyd and even Babe Ruth), a black and white "Jazz Age" video and a color film of The Thames from the 1930's.
I find the London video especially enchanting--like the pages of an old National Geographic article come to life. And the family with the two little girls at the very beginning is so Milly-Molly-Mandy, in my mind.

Don't you just love the music?! I completely agree with you Tina: that era did have something. I too love certain times of the past, and am interested in the fashion, colors, music, even manners! In my case, it's the 50's and early 60's, but also the 1800s and earlier in general.
Loved Harold Lloyd!! His show was a huge hit in my child years. I remember my dad tunning in to see him, and my brother and I laughing at his silly happenings.
Cool videos. I know this feeling of being drawn to certain times and places.
I do sometimes wish I had lived in an earlier time when life was simpler.
Have you ever watched 1900 house? It's really fun. Simpler, but man they worked hard!
I never liked jazz, don't know why. But I have an obsession with the 60s and 70s - The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Neil Diamond,Tom Jones, The Bee Gees and the Greek rebetika dating back to the 50s.
It is funny, I think we all have a period in the past that we are fascinated about. To me it is the Renaissance, in the time of Michelangelo and DaVinci. As you say, these were not just happy times; still, it would be fun to just be allowed to spend a day in that time.;))
I will now return to the clips you are posting and see them more carefully.;)

Great videos! I too love those times!:) I think in times of crisis people are more alive, they learn to value the important things in life...I think this economical crisis will start bringing what's best in people again...
