This really should be the last time I write about the mice in the cupboard. I mean, how terribly unexciting is my life if this is a reoccurring topic here?
But, I just want to happily announce that this is the third day in a row where there was not a one in either of the two traps. I think the whole "taking the mouse for a ride" and releasing it far, far away from here thing was key to ending the problem (and thank you, Rosemary, for advising me to do this). At first we were just letting them out of the trap in the wooded lot next to our house. I would not have believed they were so clever or could smell their way back. But, I think that was what was happening. Of course, they weren't clever enough to avoid the peanut butter lure and get themselves stuck in a plastic box over and over, now where they? If that was what was happening...
Another reason why I am so happy there weren't any mice when I checked the traps this morning, is because there is a blizzard out there with 30 mph winds and deep snow and I was lying awake at 5:00 this morning worried about how could I dump any captured tiny mousie out in that? I was seriously thinking of temporarily keeping them in an old fish tank if there were any caught mice this morning, instead of sending them to an immediate death by freezing.
R and J are home today because of the storm. And I am not even getting busy about getting ready for work because the roads are still unplowed(I heard the plow once last night, but it is all covered with deep snow now). And really? Who is coming out to have a picture framed today in the middle of a Nor'easter snow storm? So..I am going to wait until things die down a bit before I get the car on the road. The wind is still howling out there and blowing the snow around and there is NO way I am going out in that now.
I am going to see if my darling daughter will make me an omelet (her specialty lately).

It amazes me how much snow you still got there! We are slowly getting into spring it seems. And I'm soo happy for that!
I was smiling when reading you were even lying awake because of the need to dump out the mice in the blizzard world. I hope you did get rid of them in the house though, I know from my childhood that there seems no end to mice in the house!!

That's the nice thing about snowstorms in New England - snow days! A slower pace, waiting for cleared roads, checking school cancellations, an excuse to stay indoors! Hope you had a cozy day.

I thought we might have been heading into spring, too!! So now we have a foot of snow. And, yes, I was most relieved I didn't have to be in a quandry about what to do with any captured mice and the situation outside today!

I felt like a teacher--I had a Snow Day today(was called by the shop's owner and told not to bother coming in). I usually go off to work whenever my daughter and husband have a day off from school, so this was a real treat for me. We made Jonny Cakes, maple syrup sugar-on-snow, and surprisingly never got on each other's nerves all this long weekend.

It's true--this snow will melt sooner or later and even if we get some snow in April, winter will pretty much be over. And, yes, I am feeling more confident now that our mouse problem has come to an end. Stay warm!(and how are your fingers doing these days?)

Good to hear about no more little mice but good god girl..I could not keep them in my house in anything no matter how much snow or ice,lol.

Still no mice--it's OVER!! Yay..
I am not afraid of mice and have rescued and cared for motherless field mice(fed the wee little things with eye droppers) in the past. But I really prefer not to have an infestation(and mouse droppings) anywhere in my house.

Well, both my husband and I have a soft spot for any animal.
As for work--it's really just a job and only very interesting half the time(but I know there could be far worse things I could be doing)
How strange the snowstorm was on the news over "there"-it wasn't a catastrophe or anything!!

I wonder what it is? Can't the doctors treat it? Maybe it'll go away when the warmer weather arrives(huh! whenever THAT happens, right?)
Well, the one time I had mice in my pantry it freaked me out. The little poops were dashing around so I didn't know what they were at first. It wasn't very fun.
Spring will be there sometime, and I bet it's beautiful when it comes!
