Dump Day means getting the piles of paper and cardboard, and containers full of glass, plastic and cans to the dump for recycling. I like dump day, as the dump is actually a kind of cheery, "we are all in this together" community gathering place(complete with a "library" where you can dump unwanted books and periodicals and pick up more..). My dog likes dump day, too(oh, the tantalizing odors...)
Since my mind is reeling with all the things I need to/ought to/want to get done today(besides getting to the dump), I thought I would participate in this week's Ten On Tuesday.
This week's theme is 10 Things On Your To-Do List.
I have two running lists--one for today, and the other my running list which always gets added to, ignored, and revised.
Here is the list for today:
1. take shower (done)
2. walk dog (done)
3. open windows in house (done)
4. go to dump with recyclables, and try not to spend too much time looking for cast-off books and magazines in the dump "library" shed, girl(you have lots to do today)
5. plant out strawberries
6. clean off back deck
7. finish cleaning up back garden beds
8. pick up chicken for roasting, asparagus, fruit for fruit salad at store(sister coming for dinner at 6:00)
9. remember to file Jewel's nails
10. write *quickie* blog (almost done !)
Most likely not to get done is the cleaning up of garden beds(if I come home from the dump with new things to read, it will be tempting to be my usually lazy-biblio self and sit in the sun and read, instead). And...I wonder if I will remember to do Jewel's nails.
Here's my Hope To Do By This Summer List:
1. Try to draw/paint/collage every day in my art journal and/or sketchbook. Even if it is only a doodle like a little plump, anatomically incorrect bird(I draw out of my head but should try to draw from nature more-there is another thing for my list--life drawing) on a rolling pin.
2. move and rebuild stone path in front of house(have been saying I want to do this for eight years)
3. paint hallway a lavender color , turn into an art gallery!
4. Letters. Write letters.
5. call my friend L and make a date to get together
6. buy two white Billy bookcases from Ikea for the "home office".
7. day trip to northeastern Connecticut and a visit to Logee's greenhouse(my boss told me about this place)
8. repaint surface of back deck(have to do this every other year--it is so annoying)
9. get a pedicure soon...to start off bare feet weather on a "good footing"
10. Get out and buy some decent bras (keep putting this off...)

i love the bird sketches and love making lists. except i make the lists and that's about it : ) what do you normally sketch w/? pastels? colored pencils?
Love your lists...I should make some lists too, my head is way too full of everything I still need/want to do ;-). And time is flying so fast that it's frightening me at the moment...
Oh...and have some fun in between everything you need to do, don't forget that!!

RE: #5 - Plant out strawberries...
You must be joking, right?? Is it strawberry planting time somewhere in the world??
Man, we got MORE snow this morning. It is a lousy un-spring-like spring. :(
I enjoyed your list today, though. :)
Love the sketches here.;))
You are so organized, I should make lists like that. I have "mental lists", that is, I keep them in my mind. List like that do not work very well, I tell you.;))
I am definitely in need of a dump day; my basement has turned into a bowling hall with all the bottles that need to go to the recycling center.
I figure that is a task for a big strong Irishman.:) Lets see if I can persuade him to reserve a "dump day" in his stay next time.;))
I make lists and lose 'em.
I love a good to-do list though. Yours is impressive.
Your dump sounds awesome - I love cast-off books. Wicked fun.
I'm glad it's warm enough to open windows at your place... We're getting there.
I was just thinking about a pedicure, but also thinking it's an extravagance I can't afford right now. Maybe just the one to start sandal season off right...
~~c.k.,
Usually I am much the same way--love to list things...but at the end the day I probably accomplish one thing on it!(today is an exception being that it is my day off..). I usually draw with graphite pencils(4b) and Prismaclor colored pencils and black ink pens(but pastel..hmmm..there's an idea..)
~~Marcelle,
I know that feeling--the head too full of everything!! And no need to worry about me not having fun--I tend only to do the fun things. ;-)
~~Kathy,
I thought the nursery(in Louisiana--do they even have winter there?) who sent the strawberry plants last Friday must have been joking, too!!I was expecting them sent in mid-May when we usually have our killing frost. But, I called and they said to store the bare-root plants in the fridge's crisper drawer until I am ready to plant and these are going in a patio pot I am filling with soil, so could plant them now(bring them in whenever there is a danger of frost)and that way I may get a first crop in July, keep pinching off the blossoms and get another little crop later in the summer. This is a first for me, so cross your fingers it all works out. :-)
Boo! about the snow in your area...seems to me that you had snow until nearly June last year, right?
~~Ms. Z,
Oh no, no...NO! I am not organised at all(wait until my husband reads THAT--he'll laugh).
I forget half the things I am supposed to do, procrasinate(still have to plant the strawberries and here I am back in front of the computer), and make out lists all the time but then forget where I put the list.
That's a very good plan to have the visiting Irishman help you out with the dump duty..!
~~Only,
Oh, you should see my crumpled up lists that come out of my jeans pocket everynight and end up in a small pile on my bedroom dresser...forgotten. It was actually a good thing to write them down neatly here on my blog today--it all seemed clearer to me and possibly do-able(so far so good, for today's list)
As for the pedicure..I am thinking it might be a treat for Mother's Day...usually I try to do it myself.
Phew! Need to catch my breath here :) That's a lot of to dos but sounds like fun.
You are very talented. Great lists. Thanks for sharing.
I am craving playing in the dirt and getting my garden tidied up but it won't happen for a little while here because we just had another huge snowfall dumped on us here in Halifax... Have fun with your "Dump" day :)
I love the bird scetch :)I did a list also, got most of it done, some of it will get done tomorrow and the rest during the rest of the week and or weekend. Hope your week is going alright so far :)
i love your bird on a rolling pin. i am in awe of your drawing talent. i have none, so i think you're magic!
now buy yourself some bras and make sure they're the right size. i read somewhere that most women where the wrong size bras. i'll have to find that statistic and put it in "10 things you might not know" list.
Our dump day is Tuesday also. Couldn't go...car in shop. How'd that bird get in your kitchen? Love it and your list of lists. Happy April Fool's Day. ♥Rosemary
Hi Tina...these lists are great. They're like seeing snapshot of someone's life. Thanks! I may do something like this myself.
I had to laugh about the bras. I hate doing it too. Recently found some at Sears. I'm so glad I did a thorough measure at home because it reduced the time I spent in the fitting room.
Thanks for your recent kind comments. (I laughed about the befuddled photo of me...not taken the wrong way at all.)
~Arty,
I did it all(except for the cleaning the garden part--but I KNEW I wouldn't)!!
~Karen,
Thanks..and thanks for stopping by. I am going to try and do those Tuesday Tens lists more in the future.
~Jack,
I think I would cry if we had a big snowfall now--but then you probably expect it still at this time of year(bet your enchanted forest looks lovely with a spring snow covering it)
~Thanks, RoseAnn-
-I know with all that is going on and your vacation right around the corner, you must have a big list going..
~Judy,
I have heard of these "bra fitters" who poke and prod you into the correct bra size...I would be too shy to go through all that, I think. Still...it would be a treat to get some new, pretty bras.
~~Rosemary,
The more I think of it, I think I was channeling some old memories of Disney's "Snow White" and that scene where she cleans the cottage with the help of the animals and birds....hope the car repair didn't cost too uch, BTW.
~Sallymandy,
Thanks for the visit and comment--and Phew! I am ever so relieved that you didn't take my "befuddled" comment the wrong way.
I make daily lists and hope to do most on the list. so hard to do, by the weekend my list is long!
your #10 is a hard one. I hate shopping for bras! aren't all the decent fitting ones so expensive it makes you mad to buy them?
