Weekend Wrap Up

My butt is sore!
I had a great weekend!
How do these two seemingly incompatible sentences connect?
Well, it was so nice out today(a replay of yesterday)that we got the bikes out of the shed, dusted them off a bit after their months long sleep, added air to the tires and took a pretty long bike ride out to the river. With no coats, no hats, no gloves!
You know that first day that you would run home from school and pull on shorts for the first time, even though it wasn't even quite warm enough but you were so giddy with the feeling of spring that you just HAD to do it? This was one of those days.
(I didn't go that far, but R walked over to a friend's house after the bike ride, wearing a short jean skirt and flip-flops.)

It was a tad breezy when we got to the bridge spanning the river, but the sun was deliriously warm. A woman passed under the bridge paddling her kayak, and then we noticed her a little later on the other side. She was lying back, letting the current and wind float her along, as she soaked in the sunshine. Of course, this two day run will end tomorrow when we get back to the cold stuff--icy sleet is forecast for the next two days. I am just thankful the good weather was ours for the weekend.


When I was indoors this weekend, I kind of puttered around-rearranging things and moved a vase of daffodils(a bunch that was only 1.39 from Trader Joe's)from place to place.
First in the dining area--then in the bedroom.
I can't wait until I can pick my own daffodils from the yard.
Over the past two weekends, I have been weeding out books, dusting the bookshelves(and bringing on a horrible allergic reaction to the dust and possibly mold in the process--itchy eyes, violent sneezing and drippy nose)and reorganizing the books by subject.
Now, in my bedroom, it is mostly my favorite works of fiction. In another room--mostly biography, memoir, travel and non-fiction. In the dining area-cookbooks(of course), dictionaries, atlases, poetry, dog breed books and pop culture(comic books, movies), art and photography.
One day--I'll have my whole wall of built in white bookcases and all the books will be in the same place instead of in different rooms. But, I feel like I have put some order into my books, even though I am still recovering, physically from the process. Achoo!

R and I ended up going to a high school production of The Wizard Of Oz last night. My friend, whose daughter had numerous roles in the play sent me the following e-mail after she saw the first performance:

I just got home from the Wizard of Oz at the high school, definitely worth the price...$10 per adult $8.00 per student and free for 12 and under. The singing was great, acting was great there is an orchestra and people FLY! I am always amazed at the talent of the people in South County.

So, I just had to go! And it really was a fun night out. The young performers were SO good --very professional. The full orchestra(all students) really blew me away with the score that accompanied the play(which pretty much closely followed the movie version, but with a few ad-libs). The giant paper-mache talking Oz head (with bursts of dry ice "smoke" pouring forth from it's mouth) was fantastic. And, the flying monkeys were the best part.

I have to remember to get out to see live theater more often.

And..I have to remember to get to the bike shop to see about getting a new seat for my bike--one of those padded ones, so my tush can ride more comfortably in the future.
