Almost Too Darn Hot...

...to blog, but since it is way too hot and sunny outside this afternoon and it is passably cool inside (yeah, yeah..I know I have a reputation for not liking air conditioning, but I have to admit I am a fan of it big time today!), I thought I would load a few of the photos I took this morning(before my camera's juice ran out).
After picking up R's friend, we headed into downtown Westerly(which is a actually a bustling little place) and had a mid-morning breakfast at the spot that Conan O'Brien used to take his family when he was on this coast(his sister and parents live near Westerly). Of course, I had to order the Coconut French Toast that was Conan's favorite.
What a simple idea--lightly toasted coconut sprinkled over French Toast, drizzled with maple syrup. I'll have to try the coconut on my own homade French Toast when I make it next time.
Then we wandered into a few shops and stayed on the shady side of the street (it wasn't too bad because of a breeze).
One the way home, we stopped off at a farm stand for some ice cold soda( Yacht Club Brand-since 1911) and corn.

I would never have thought to put coconut on french toast (I used to call in Gypsy bread when in England) I can't wait to try it now. What kind of soda did you get? I am a sucker for any blue soda or cola. My brother in law once travelled down to the LA area where a guy has an old fashioned soda store. His Christmas present to everyone was a big bag of different kinds of that person's favourite soda. This was before BevMo where most of the brands that he got one can get there!

Sounds like a wonderful way to spend a midsummer day.

~Clare,
Gypsy Bread, hmmmm...never heard that name! :-)
The girls got root beer and orange soda(which was a better tasting orange--not that too sweet, fake taste)and I got lemon.
What an interesting idea for a Christmas goodie bag--full of fizzy drinks!

~Sandra,
The day was made even better by going down to the beach at 5:00 for a swim(lowered our body temps by at least 20 degrees) and then pizza(felt sorry for the pizza workers, though--sweltering by the oven).

~Erin,
Thanks! This was a true HOT August day--all we need now is a thunderstorm(I can feel it coming)

Zuzana,
Sorry to hear you already have cold weather! It isn't sunny here today(still waiting for that thunder storm...), but certainly quite warm and humid. In a way, I think I would prefer your weather better for today.

I've heard of croque monsieur and croque madame - the traditional French toasts but ...Coconut French Toast??? Oh I've never heard of that before. Are you sure this is a French toast Tina? I'd rather have some brie and some brioches for a French breakfast!
