Randomness and Loss

Life forms illogical patterns. It is haphazard and full of beauties which I try to catch as they fly by, for who knows whether any of them will ever return?
~~ Margot Fonteyn

This is the third summer in a row where I have had to learn the terrible, shocking news of a friend's unexpected death. We just found out Friday night that a long-time friend of Mr. F's (since college days) was killed by a drunk driver the evening before.

It has been very hard for Mr.F these last few days, and has once again cast a sad and strange pall over these otherwise sunny summer days.

Just makes you rethink the randomness of life and death and also makes me realise that you just gotta make the best of what you have today as there is no telling what can happen to you, your loved ones or world in the next instant.
So...
...hug your kid or dog or cat......

....if your SO is driving you crazy by snoring loudly, or forever leaving the damn toilet seat up , think of what it would be like if they weren't there any longer to do that(or you weren't around any longer to be bothered by it) and you might even begin to like that familiar noise (and that open lid)....

...call that friend you have been out of touch with--you never know if you'll ever get a chance to speak with them or see them again....

...each day, try to remember to breathe in the scents around you, as well as appreciate all the sounds, sensations and visual beauty of your little corner of the world....

..be kind.

I am sorry for your family's loss. I love your perspective on this though. You are so right.

Sudden death is so jarring. All death shocks us. It seems this is one thing we cannot (and perhaps, should not) control.

I feel very badly for this young man and his family and friends. The choices we make can have good or disastrous consequences as the car driver has learned.

We can only hope that we will make good choices that will only make the world ( or at least our part of it) a better place. And as you say, being kind is one good choice.

Sending you a big hug and cup of tea!! Life is short and unpredictable. We need to live in each moment.

I am so sorry to hear this news that your family is going through. My Mr. F lost a friend last year - hit and run on his motorcycle. Left a wife and young child. I try not to sweat the small stuff. I find myself these days looking up in the sky, looking at trees, just trying to appreciate life.

Sending hugs, chocolate, and a hot cup of Tetley tea your way

Tina, Thank you for the reminder. Of courses you're right. I'd much rather have the people I love here and bothering me than not have them.

Hugs.

I couldn't agree more. One of my best friends' SIL (39) just died last week and I still cannot believe she is no longer alive. Her daughters (13 and 15) have to do without her...
So I so agree with your little poem...I love the words!! Enjoy life, it's in the small things!!

So sorry to hear about the tragic loss. I know completely what kind of thoughts these news bring out in your own mind; suddenly the fragility of life is obvious and the feeling of immense gratitude over the fact that we get to even be here is apparent.
I am sorry about the sadness you both go through and I agree with you on all the simple pleasures that you list...
Many hugs,
Zuzana

I know we needn't get so worked up about the little things (though hard sometimes). We need to appreciate the things we don't. Think positive no matter what and as you said be kind and good.
Sorry for the loss Tina..

Coincidentally, when I was reading your post, I will Always Love you was playing on the radio, and I couldn't help but cry a little. Life is filles with wonderful moments, often found in the strangest places, and in the smallest things. One does have to live the moment, get the best out of it and be grateful. I hope Mr.F is doing better.

Everyone,
Mr. F is doing alright(I think), although was tossing and turning in his sleep last night, which was worrisome, considering he was at the open casket wake last night.

There was a vigil for his friend at the high school(he was a popular English teacher there for years)and J went to that the other day and it was at least a positive thing to see how he impacted so many students(past and recent).
The funeral is today and we'll be leaving in a few hours....

Oh I'm so very sorry for your loss. Life is amazingly fragile and I think we forget that. Sad that it takes a death to remind us. Thanks for sharing this post.

I did not mean to sound glib in my comment above. I was talking more about the end of your post.(the little annoyances) I am sorry of the loss of your friends. That is very hard on everyone.

~Doreen,
No worries..I didn't find anything about your comment "glib" or otherwise--thanks for your taking the time to read and even comment from time to time.
The funeral was very hard and sad and I haven't been feeling like blogging ever since. Maybe next week....
