Seems so many bloggin' friends have Sesame Street themed entries as of late, with this month being the 40th anniversary of this groundbreaking kid's show. Even though I was really too old already for it when it first aired in 1969(past Kindergarten age and already reading), I do remember watching the very first show(my father must have read about it and made sure we all watched it when it premiered--for some reason I always remember it being Thanksgiving Day) and loving it, and often watched it alongside my baby brother(six years younger) throughout the 70's. So creative and different. Then there was Zoom, and also The Muppet Show, but that would be a whole 'nother blog(or two).
I liked the cartoons featuring letters and numbers(like this one and this one--"ten chocolate layer cakes..!") and always loved Grover best(and liked Bert, The Count and Kermit, too).
And, um, can I say that I don't like Elmo at all? Annoying voice and character and I'm glad he came along l-o-n-g after I stopped watching this show. (maybe that is why my daughter never really watched Sesame Street when she was around the age for it?) And, is Grover really his..uncle? Sheesh.(yeah, yeah, it's just me being old and cranky, I suppose...)

I remember some episodes of the Latin American version which was called "Plaza Sésamo". Loved the Count!, and Bert and Ernie, who were named "Beto y Lucas" in our version. Yeah...entertaining and fun. If I can get any of the old episodes, I watch them. But like you, I stay away from those with Elmo. Annoying voice!, but a hit with many kids...curious, huh?
I did not grow up with any of these. However, Muppet Show was send in Sweden and we did use to watch it. But lot of it was lost on us as the few first years in Sweden we did not speak Swedish that well and English not at all. Some of the jokes required the knowledge of the English language. Once I was proficient in both, the show was no longer being broadcast.;)
It is always a bit sentimental to take a walk down the memory lane of such productions.;)
