This photo just slays me.
I think it is beautiful.
And not only because there is a goat in it(have I said I have a soft spot for goats before?)
The imagined tenderness on the part of this Vermont farmer(circa 1974 from the U.S. Nat. Archives) for this animal in his arms might be just that--imagined. But I sense a strong feeling in this man's make-up for the animal he is entrusted to feed and care for.

Yep, that's my dog Jewel, who'll be 7 years already (!!) in late May.
She's half Italian Greyhound(an even smaller version of sighthound than the pretty whippet that won the Hound Group at Westminster the other day) and half Brittany(the breed that won the Sporting Group at the Westminster Dog Show), but everyone seems to think she is still a puppy.

As for the Evil Empire--that is okay if that's your team(there are a few Yankee fans around here so I am used to it--don't understand it, but am used to it...heh..heh..)
Heck, my die-hard Red Sox fan husband even went to one of the last games played at the old Yankee Stadium to pay homage.
I agree with you, what a picture! As they say, sometimes pictures speak more than thousand words, and this one surely does.
I can see the same things in the man's face as you can. And the animal truly trusts him.
I did not know you liked goats.;)) That is pleasing to know, as I am a goat (or a sheep at times) in Chinese astrology and I have always felt that being so boring. I much rather be a dragon, like P.;))

Any photograph with an animal in it warms my heart. Especially those animals one considers kind and friendly. I too hope the man cared after the goat, and any other animal in his farm. What a great picture.

Great photo,Tina! There's definitely a strong connection between the man and the goat. I feel this derives from the man's tender care of the animal. I think the man is giving the affection and the goat is in a position to reciprocate.
