" You mind is your best camera. Go out and take some beautiful pictures "

quote by Darryl Something-or-other.

Sorry, Darryl, I don't remember your last name, but do remember this from the back of a blank photo greeting card we used to sell in the shop.

It's true--I store so many photographic moments in my head(some do get stuffed way back when the newest ones crowd them). I also am not the best of photographers, anyway, and seem never to have a camera on me when I want one.

Yesterday evening, for example. I should have had a camera, but didn't.
I was driving along the road to town to pick the daughter up after her singing practice. Not quite dusk--after an unseasonably hot(nearly 90*F)day, the bright yellow full moon(the Strawberry Moon, if you go by the Native American names for the full moons) just risen in the sky.
The sky the merest hint of daytime blue, still.
I could clearly see the face on the moon and I swear it had a deeply worried expression. I had never seen that before! It was as if the moon were looking down at us humans and looking at all the damage done--oceans poisoned by gushing petroleum, piles of plastic and Styrofoam in landfills, melting glaciers and on and on. I don't blame the moon for worrying. Heck, I worry--every morning I wake up and that damn oil "leak" in the Gulf of Mexico pops into my mind.

Anyway, at least the beauty of the evening was a nice thought for a little bit yesterday. I still have this beautiful natural world around me, on a small scale, to enjoy.
As I drove past the cove and marsh, I saw the familiar osprey silhouetted against the sky, perched on the outer edge of it's high nest on a pole--another bird head(I think) sticking out of the nest. It was either the female sitting on eggs or a chick.

The ocean was glittering and softly blue, which of course, made me think again, of that other body of water miles away(and afterall, connected to "my" ocean--we are affected by the "Gulf Stream" here), being suffocated by the oil leak.

I wish I had a camera to take some photos last night, but I still would not have been able to capture the cool breeze and misty sea air, so welcome after a hot day. I would not have been able to capture the sound of the waves hitting the rocks against the seawall. Or the crickets and last robin's song of the day.

But, I am going to tuck my camera into my bag and take it along with me today. I really have to try to remember to do that.

Oh, I know the sentiment. I used to miss so many photo opportunities that now I carry my camera with me always. In case I forget, I have back up in my iPhone. It takes acceptable pictures, but camera is much better.;)
Are you too effected by the heat wave? They write on out news online that NYC have 35C celsius (I guess it is in the late nineties), but does that stretch to you as well? If so, please pack some of it in a parcel and send it to me.;) With our 12C (about 54F) we need it.;)

I share that feeling! It's frustrating when one does not have the camera, and the most awesome scene appears, as if by magic. My camera is in a drawer at home, without batteries (argh!), but this new cell of mine has a camera and takes some pretty good pictures! I may not talk on the phone that much (do not know why I even have a cell), but I have found the best of uses: picture taking :-)

Oil spill...seems that everyone is worried about it, except the responsible ones. Shame on them! and how on earth they haven't found the solution?! It's so ridiculous that they had the technology and brains to make the hole to make a buck, but have no idea what to do now. I always remember my time in University: one always had to have a backup plan and a solution for it in case it went down south, otherwishe, it was not a good project. Seems to me now that they would've fail big time!
I'm hoping, though, with all my heart, that something is done immediately and successfully.

I just bought a cheap point and shoot for my purse. I am not a photographer either but last night I had fun trying out the panoramic feature (see my blog).

Air Force one flew over head on my way home on Monday night and I was driving so I could not take a picture. DRATS!!

I normally have my camera with me at all times, but last night I went to the drug store and saw the most beautiful clouds and I did not have my camera with me. There was an orange glow illuminating the clouds, as if a crayon had outlined and captured the beauty inside. It was truly amazing and the first time I had ever seen anything like it.

I enjoyed reading your post today.

That image of the moon sounds like it must have looked amazing! You know how much I love taking photos... but sometimes I think it's good not to have a camera, and be "forced" to take pictures with out minds. Some of my best memories have no photographs to go with them :)

The oil catastrophe is mind boggling.

I need to get out with my camera. It is gorgeous today and I should be outside enjoying it... ack.

Don't worry - I'm able to picture it in my mind just as you describe it - better than a photo!
