...on 2010. This is the week when we usually begin to take stock of the fast fading year.
Our best(and worst ) moments, favorite films, music and books. Even though I am sure I am forgetting one or two books, these were my favorite books of the year:

* When Will There Be Good News? ~ Kate Atkinson
* The Girl With No Shadow ~ Joanne Harrisand rereading:
* My Family And Other Animals by Gerald Durrell(and getting to introduce this book to my book club and learning that everyone loved this book like I do!)And that is all for this entry, even though I had at first considered describing(or trying to) the dream I had just before waking this morning. Both my husband and I and...John Lydon(AKA Johnny Rotten) were in it. But it is already evaporating from my memory...
I could have also gone into detail about my already growing post-holiday blue mood. Not a full blown depression, but a feeling of disatisfaction and "is that all there is?". But, it is off to the Job for now (which may or may not contribute to this mood even more).
And, even though the date at the top says it is Tuesday, Dec. 28,
it is actually Wednesday, Dec. 29.
I started to list my favorite books last night and saved it as a draft and cannot figure out a way to update the date.

For some reason, I thought 2010 was going to be the "it" year for books and reading. Not so much. Hopefully 2011? I did read the Ladies' Detective Agency ones you sent, and I'm half way through an Anne Perry, which I love! It has certainly helped to clear the mind of the many unpleasant things of December. Comfort reading...nothing better than that!

I have read none of these! So I will be on the look out. I am making an effort to get back to reading like I used to. Just finished 2 books over holiday. 1 okay and 1 strangly good.
The one you are rereading caught my eye once but I put it back when it was about flora and animals and it talked about how kids loved it. so apparently I am missing something.
I loved 'The Forgotten Garden'. (Thanks to you, by the way!!) It was one of the best that I read this year, too!! Looking forward to what next year will bring in book reading. I LOVE reading!!
I have not read any of these books, will have to check them out.

I find reading at night a pleasure and it helps me, also, escape some of the unpleasant moments of the day. I hope you'll find time to read many good books in the coming new year.

I was recommended the Durrell book by an online friend, but would also never have chosen it on my own. Trust me--it is a great book(and you will be laughing throughout). Hmmm...wondering now which book it was that you read that was..."strangely good".

So many books...so little time.

The book that was strangely good was...Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women.
I couldn't it put down & yet it was a bit boring. I loved Little Women as a young girl. Read it so many times. I also very much loved the 2000 movie with Susan Sarandon and Wyona Ryder.
This book was odd, interesting and yet could bored me to tears with the Minutia of research but yet I could NOT put it down. Her father was very progressive in a liberal intellectual way. He, to me had no common sense and was lazy but he was admired in his circle. Their family friends were Emerson, Hawthorne and Thoreau. How's taht for family friends to sit around and chat with? The strength in that household was the women.Her mother was the strength and smarts but she toiled in a man's world that at times angered Louisa. (as well as the mother)the father was gone for long periods of time doing "his thing" while the women had to do so much for so little including food. I found it fascinating and not sugar coated by any means making Louisa a proper "lady". She had a temper and rage, was prone to fits of jealously and would hit her sisters. And she was just plain not nice a good deal of time.
It was a great look into the lives at that period in time as well as one of my favorite authors.
see now what I used the word "strange" it truly was a different kind of book
I haven't read any of these and I do love Joanne harris so will have to look out for that one (just posted my review of Chocolat not long ago)

I have been a terrible reader (and blogger, and snailmailer and and and) this year. I bought the first of Stieg Larsson from a street seller in September but haven't started lol. Glad you like him though. I *love* Frances Mayes!!
