The Happy List...

.... The mid-January 2011 Edition.

I felt myself feeling light-hearted and just plain happy today(and of course, the dog always makes any day happier). All day long. No cranky feelings of any kind. Although, its a good thing I am not a football fan, because there are a lot of unhappy New England Patriots fans right now(they tanked, apparently, against the NY Jets in the game that just a ended a short while ago).

The sun was shining and I felt happy and alive kicking through the deep snow up at the town soccer fields when I took Jewel up there for a romp this morning. It finally warmed up a little--it was actually in the low 30's F today, after days in the single digits(that was TOO cold for me). I could even feel the warmth of the sun on my face as I walked outside--pretty good for January, I think!

The daughter was away overnight at a friend's house, and I was missing her, since I barely saw her from Friday through Saturday (I was out Friday night, and then had to work on Sat.). And when she did get home this afternoon, she kind of surprised me by not immediately holing herself up in her bedroom like Mr. F and I were expecting she would. She actually hung around and talked to us(and of course, asked if there was anything to eat!). I think she might have missed us a little, too.

I drove up to the nearest Trader Joe's (which is always a fun place to go-it makes food shopping an event for me) after lunch time and was really loving the scenery from inside my moving car. The deep snow really is beautiful and looked spectacular under the bright blue winter sky. There were long icicles hanging and glittering from house eaves. There were snowmen in front yards(even one with a pointed birthday hat on). The inside of my car was warm and toasty, the heater on full blast. I loved that the highway was pretty empty and I could just fly, the tunes on my car radio blasting. Oh yeah, sometimes, I love driving under the right conditions!

Speaking of tunes on the radio, I am so thankful for WMVY on the FM dial. It is one of the few real radio stations left I think, with a creative playlist and real disc jockeys with real, distinct personalities(who occasionally make mistakes like playing the wrong song and then burst back on air with a goofy apology and then play the right one)like I remember every radio station had in years past. I know I am dating myself, because I think many people even my own age don't really listen to the radio anymore? But this station, broadcasting out of Martha's Vineyard still can make me feel happy listening to old and new songs and artists. You can even listen online. This song, by Buddy Guy and B.B. King(ages 74 and 85, respectively--and do they LOOK that old?! Not to me.) was the last song I heard as I headed back home , groceries piled in the back of the car, mission completed. It ended just as I drove into my drive at the house. How perfect is that? A bluesy, heartfelt song about gratitude and loving life. Turn it up, and listen to the whole thing, because the banter at the end is priceless.

These are my favorite posts of yours, when you just describe your day.;)
Sounds like your little girl is growing up - I remember a period of time when my parents were aliens and then suddenly they became my best friends.;)
Thank you for a great tune to mellow out my Monday morning, that is particularly stressful this week. I only wish your comment section would open in another window so I could keep listening to it while writing this.;)
Have a lovely Monday Friday girl,
xoxo

~Zuzana,
Thanks, as always for stopping by and leaving your comment. Hope your Monday's been fine(just beginning with a cup of coffee over here).
I have heeded your excellent suggestion about having my comments in a seperate box--I never gave it a thought to change it until you mentioned it. :-)

What a great day.
I have to say though your dog Jewel's face melts me. I just love your dog and have never met her.

I saw BB King in concert 2 years ago when he was only 73. It was an outdoor amphitheatre on a hot august night with wine and friends and it was fabulous.

thanks for helping my Monday morning here at work - attempting to work while ill.

BTW I would love to know your thoughts after you read the book, "lies my teacher told me"
Very curious.

And the radio stations - remember when we were kids and a station played everything? Motown and Stones, Eagles and Aretha. Today Aretha would be on one channel, Eagles would be considered country, stones on rock and then we'd have motown. it's so fragmented and we miss out on so much good music. I will give a listen on line. Thx for the tip!

Good day then!! :o) I hope it goes on during the entire week. I hear it snowed Sunday night? If that was the case, I hope it didn't mess up the smile and good mood.

Have a good Monday!

It was the first sentence: "light-hearted and just plain happy" - don't you just wish you could bottle that feeling for some of the darker days? Besides, it's mid January, so to feel like that is pretty special ;-) Hope your week will be just like that, Love from London xo

very uplifting post Tina! I remember one time walking my dog along the school's play yard. I was walking my dog along the edge, not in the play area, and a man actually pulled his car over from the road (with his son in the car) to yell and scream at me that I was not suppose to be walking my dog there. he was just screaming at me, out of the blue. I couldn't believe it. some people.

Your dog has the sweetest doggy face.

Your day sounds perfect. I love BB King. I saw him about 10 years ago in Mountain View, CA. I once read that he has been in over 20 car accidents! My hubbys best friend plays guitar with a very famous bluesperson right now. The life of a blues musician is very interesting.

~Zuzana,
I remember being like that with my own parents when I was a teenager, so try to keep that in mind so I won't be too hurt when I am ignored like that by my daughter these days--it is perfectly normal. after all. Inside, I *know* we will always have a good relationship.

~Peg,

I can't beleive you managed to work while being sick like that--that is dedication!(and also called running your own business, I guess) I remember when the radio stations played EVERYTHING, too. Now, everything is put into little boxes.

~Claus,
We only a had a tiny bit of snow that night, but as I write this a few days later, we are expecting ANOTHER snowstorm overnight.

~Mlle. Poirot,
I have been in a pretty good mood all week( a few sunny days helped) but was starting to feel a little down over the cold and dark days again today...will have to keep reminding myself that January is almost done with.

~Doreen,
What a mean busybody that man was, yelling at you like that! As long as we pick up after our dogs at this town park, dogs ARE allowed( a few people don't follow that rule, though, so sometimes I worry they are going to ruin it for all the dog owners by banning them at some point). I don't usually take my dog there when I know there will be kids and soccer and baseball games. either.

~Clare,
It seems I have missed out(so far) on seeing B.B. King perform! And, yes...I am sure his life has been v-e-r-y interesting! ;-)

We finally got a Trader Joe's in Portland! Although its only a five minute drive.

I'm with you on solitary drives, especially with some good music playing wicked loud.

We have a nice radio station up here that I know you would like - I used to listen to your station years ago when I lived on the South Shore.
